The seventh heaven: Did you always want to treat yourself something very special for your holidays ? How about a holiday home with private pool and private tennis court surrounded by almost unspoilt countryside ? This comfortable country house is located in peaceful single location at the edge of the Nature Park Sierra de Tejeda on a fenced in plot of 5000 sqm, of which 3000 sqm are flat and well-kept garden with flowers and an enormous, 200 years old holm oak tree. Surrounded by forest and wide unspoilt expanses you breathe here the pure relaxation and forget the everyday stress. During you are sitting comfortably on the roofed terrace and the steaks are sizzleing on the bricked-in barbecue, you enjoy the views on the large garden with the huge holm oak tree (by the way, the fruits are edible) and still have an eye on your children while they are bathing in the pool or playing at the seesaws. A fantastic eyecatcher is of course the neighboring Nature Park, above which rises the Maroma. In winter you even can see snow on the top of this mountain with more than 2000 m, whereas you are sunbathing at cosy temperatures in the garden. - The private tennis court made of polished concrete has the right dimensions for singles, but could be used also for doubles. The private pool (approx. 7 x 4 m) is surrounded by a sun terrace of 20 sqm and with its depth of 1,16 m to 1,80 m just right for children as well as for adults. - In front of the entrance of the house is a spacious patio (inner court). Inside of the house passing a small hall you come into a welcoming dining room, which is next to the modern fitted kitchen. This is equipped among other things with an electrical hob (4 plates), separate oven, fridge-freezer, microwave and electrical coffee machine. In the same room as the dining room, but on a little gallery, is the cosy living-room with a large fireplace and flatscreen TV, which is also for radio. Two spacious bedrooms with double beds and an additional bed as well as a cot offer space enough for 5 adults totally. Two nice bathrooms (one of it “en suite”) and a separate WC ensure that in the mornings nobody is stuck in a “traffic jam”. - In this comfortable country house with central heating and homely interior you straightaway feel perfectly well. The plot belongs to the municipity Alhama de Granada and is in the area “El Alconorcal”, which is part of the Nature Reserve of Sierra de Tejada y Almijara. Therefore it is surrounded by indigenous plants and trees like holm oaks, cork oaks, pines and more. - You reach the extensive Nature Park within 5 carminutes, which you can cross by foot or by car. The special kinds of plants, the spectacular views, the source of a brook, the barbecue places and a small bar a worth seeing. - The nearest restaurant is only 2 km far away. The bigger towns in the environs are Alhama de Granada (approx. 8 km), which is popular through the spa with hot springs and an impressive ravine, as well as Zafarraya (approx. 8 km) next to the “Natural Gateway”, a gigantic notch in a mountain range, through which passes the road which connects the provinces Malaga and Granada. In both towns are various shops, restaurants, bars and banks. Within 45 carminutes you arrive at the beaches of Costa del Sol. The distances to Malaga (harbor, old city, museums and more) are 72 km, to Granada (Alhambra) 85 km and the skiing area of Sierra Nevada 120 km. |

Exactly situated between the big cities Malaga and Granada Ventas de Zafarraya forms a good starting point for going on a trip to the coast as well as to the Spanish hinterland of the province of Granada.
The village with about 1340 inhabitants is 920 m above sea level on a wide plateau, which is used for vegetable gardening. Several mountain ranges frame it. The most impressive is the Natural Gateway (“El Boquete”), a gigantic notch in a mountain range, through which passes the road which connects the provinces Malaga and Granada. Here is a fantastic lookout point with explanations, from where you look out over the wide coastal region and the Mediterranean Sea.
Places of interest
The old railway station, the “Cortijo Los Buenos” (residence of the margrave Ybarra), the “Hotel de la Estación” (bar and museum together), the old townhall from 1873, the church “Sta. María de los Dolores”.
Festivals
“La Candelaria” on 2nd February (bonfires all over the village), “Viernes de Dolores” on Friday before Palm Sunday (patronage festival to the glory of the Virgen de los Dolores), the pilgrimage San Marcos on 25th April, the “Ferie Chica” or “Feria Real de Junio” on 20th June, the “Feria Grande” or “Feria Real de Septiembre” on 4th September or the first weekend of September
In Ventas de Zafarraya is a petrol station, various little shops and bars, so that you are well provided for the daily requirements. Especially worth mentioning is the pub at the Natural Gateway, where they serve very tasty fried chicken. - But it is worth visiting the hotel behind the restaurant San Marco, which is in a sharp bend at the road A 402 in direction of Alhama de Granada. There you sit in front of an enormous walk-in fireplace during you take a drink and some free tapas or you enjoy one of the tasty meals of good plain cooking or game.
Just opposite of the hotel is a little hippodrome, where often some events are held. - Behind the hotel is another access to the Nature Park. Don’t miss to make a quick trip to it to see the special flora and fauna and the fantastic lookout points. Anyway you should go on a hike or perhaps even make an ascent to the summit of the Maroma, which has more than 2000 m.
Following the road A 402 soon you arrive Alhama de Granada. This town with nearly 6000 inhabitants is 883 m over sea level and offers several places of interest.
The name of the town comes from an Arabic word, which means “warm waters” and says, where the hot springs flow. Still today you can use the public, free spa or for money the comfortably developed thermal springs for a bath in the sulphurous, warm water of 40° C.
Alhama de Granada is on the steep bank of the river Alhama, which begins abrupt behind the houses. The view into the depth is stunning and reminds of the ravine of Ronda.
A walk through the lovely narrow streets with the old houses to the towering cathedral is worthwhile. Countless restaurants and bars with tasty dishes make sure you don’t go hungry. And it goes without saying that also here is a huge number of shops, where you can go shopping.
